IBT College Launches First-Ever Sudbury Home Care Staffing Forum and Career Expo

IBT College has been at the forefront of rapidly training Support Workers in Ontario. Strengthening the workforce is the key to solving the home care crisis. We have made large investments in AR/VR training tools, microcredentials and international recruitment to help the province.

Ontario is facing a 110,000 shortfall of healthcare workers by 2028. On October 20th, IBT College will host the first-ever Home Care Staffing Forum and Healthcare Career Expo in Sudbury (https://www.homecareforum.ca). The Forum is a professional development opportunity for Human Resource leaders, CEOs and Management as we discuss such critical issues as: Recruitment, Retention, Training, Leadership and Technology.

We will be focusing on issues specific to the Northern region of Ontario. James Rice, the Vice-President of IBT College, will be presenting strategies to recruit international healthcare workers to the region.

To solve the Home Care and Health Care Staffing crisis we must work together across the country, across educational institutions, across businesses and not-for-profits big and small to come up with workable, practical solutions.

IBT College will be demonstrating its ground-breaking Virtual Reality Micro-credential training programs that include The Virtual Dementia Brain where individuals can experience dementia symptoms including unintentional movements, sudden sound and visual impairment or learners will enter a typical LTC facility and upon entry they will discover they are experiencing on of four different visual impairments.

“The Home Care Staffing Forum was amazing. The symposium itself had a lot of great information that will be valuable to our teams.  We were able to network and connect with an array of folks that had developed innovative solutions to the challenges of recruitment and retention that we are all facing. There were speakers from a wide range of organizations that were able to talk about these challenges from very different perspectives which was also great learning.” Karen Pietrangelo, Bayshore Home Care Solutions

IBT College offers the only Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality platform for private career college students in Canada. Our platform allows you to interact with objects, places, and models as an experiential textbook. Through Augmented and Virtual Reality you learn through showing rather than telling. Healthcare animations & models that bring learning alive include:

  • Animation showing the difference between effective swallowing vs aspiration vs choking
  • 3D replicated rooms full of furniture, safety risks
  • Animated pulse points & respirations
  • 3D images of a variety of adapted feeding tools
  • Animation showing the outwardly visual changes to a person while dying
  • 3D images of 5 different mobility aids
  • Animation showing the progression of pressure sores

On July 21, 2022, IBT College brought together over 30 healthcare organizations from Sudbury to Windsor. Assistant Deputy Minister Kelly Shields from the Ministry of Colleges and University was our Keynote Speaker and discussed Micro-credentials and Upskilling. We welcomed panelists from a broad range of Home Care organizations and industry experts to share their thoughts and solution. Speakers were from Bayshore Health, CBI Health, Caregiver Omnimedia as well as international recruitment specialists from Vietnam, Nigeria, Jamaica along with retention experts. The feedback was amazing.

86% of Attendees stated they will use ideas and solutions presented at the Forum.
